Jenoptik to deploy mobile speed and noise enforcement systems in Santa Fe, New Mexico

JENOPTIK Smart Mobility Solutions, LLC, a leading manufacturer of road safety and security solutions, has partnered with the city of Santa Fe, New Mexico to implement an automated speed and noise pollution enforcement program.

Dangerous driving and loud vehicle noise have been a growing concern throughout the city of Santa Fe. Street racing, loud mufflers, excessive speeding and other problematic behavior have negatively impacted residents’ quality of life both emotionally and physically. To address these concerns the city council unanimously approved a multi-year contract for Jenoptik’s mobile trailer solutions equipped with speed cameras and noise pollution enforcement to help change driver behavior.

Jenoptik will work with the Santa Fe Police Department to deploy six mobile trailers throughout the community in August 2026. The self-sufficient 24/7 operating trailer systems will be strategically placed in areas that are considered hot spots based on complaints from the public and supported by crash data. Jenoptik’s cameras will automatically capture violator’s license plates, and the incident will be reviewed by law enforcement before issuing a citation.

The city will retain ownership of all its data, and it cannot be shared by Jenoptik with any outside entities, including federal immigration authorities.

The Santa Fe Police Department will develop an education campaign in advance of the cameras’ deployment, that will include informing the public of where the cameras will be located, posting signage and only issuing warnings for the first 30 days.

The program will be funded by revenue generated by fines and any additional funds will go to the department’s safe driving initiatives.

“Our residents have made it clear that dangerous speeding, street racing and excessive vehicle noise are affecting their neighborhoods and their quality of life. This technology gives the Santa Fe Police Department an effective tool to address those concerns. It will enhance our officers’ ability to enforce traffic laws, deter reckless driving and hold violators accountable while allowing our personnel to remain focused on responding to emergencies and building relationships within the community. Our goal is simple: safer streets, quieter neighborhoods and a better quality of life for everyone who calls Santa Fe home,” said Interim Police Chief Ben Valdez.

In addition to addressing speeding and noise pollution, Jenoptik’s automated enforcement solutions act as a force multiplier by helping free up officers’ time to focus on other public safety initiatives and community policing work.

The department will use early data to study driving behavior to determine if the cameras are making an impact and decide whether to add more systems in the future. Long time residents of Santa Fe have been advocating for action and are happy that these public safety issues are being addressed to help make their community safer.
