New speed measurement systems for the City Region Aachen, Germany

In April 2025, the City Region Aachen commissioned three semi-stationary speed measurement systems from Jenoptik, a leading manufacturer of road safety and civil security solutions. These systems expand the region’s options for increasing traffic safety in the area. The order value is in the high six-digit euro range.

The three new speed enforcement trailers, named Nils, Thomas, and Willi, can flexibly perform speed measurements in both directions at different high-risk locations. The systems remain self-sufficient at a location for about a week before their batteries are recharged and they are relocated.

Unfortunately, severe accidents with traffic fatalities remain a daily occurrence on German roads, and one of the main causes is excessive speed.”

The City Region Aachen is a long-standing customer of Jenoptik Smart Mobility Solutions and utilizes various speed monitoring options. In addition to semi-stationary systems, accident hotspots are also secured sustainably through stationary systems.
