Jenoptik Baltic secures major contract to expand Lithuania’s “Via Toll” enforcement network
Jenoptik Baltic, part of Jenoptik Smart Mobility Solutions and formerly known as FIMA ITS, has been awarded a significant low single-digit million euros contract by Via Lietuva. The contract involves the delivery and installation of more than 200 new Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras across Lithuanian national roads and complements the successful previous installation of the same cameras. This deployment supports the launch of the “Via Toll” electronic road toll system on January 1st, 2027, which replaces the current e-vignettes for heavy goods and commercial vehicles with distance-based tolling.

Martynas Gedaminskas, CEO of Via Lietuva, stated: “A new electronic road toll system in Lithuania will come into operation at the start of 2027. A smooth transition requires a range of tasks of varying complexity, and one of the planned measures is to strengthen enforcement. To ensure the effective collection of road tolls, we are increasing the number of traffic surveillance cameras on toll roads in Lithuania.”
The project entails installing Jenoptik’s GardoVia universal ANPR camera at about 125 strategic locations within twelve months. GardoVia is a cost-effective, police-graded camera designed to reliably identify license plates and categorize vehicles. It is widely used for various applications, e.g. civil security solutions, parking management, access control, and toll enforcement. By expanding the monitoring network on paid road sections, the system will enhance the automatic detection and recording of toll violations.
