Kuwait uses Jenoptik technology to detect moving vehicle offences

Jenoptik will provide together with its local partner more than 100 TraffiPole housings equipped with systems to enforce red light, speeding and moving vehicle offences.

Jenoptik, a leading manufacturer of road safety and civil security solutions, secured a new order from the Traffic Department of Kuwait, a division of the country’s Ministry of the Interior. Together with its local partner First Joint Group, Jenoptik will equip Kuwait with more than 100 traffic enforcement systems to increase safety at intersections in the country. The systems are able to detect red light, speeding and moving vehicle offences, such as illegal turns. The value of the contract is in the mid single-digit million euro range and includes site surveys, installation, hardware and technical training. Deliveries are scheduled for the third quarter 2024.

The systems will be housed in Jenoptik’s TraffiPole, a sustainable housing solution developed for hot climates. A natural air-cooling system ensures for all components to work accurately at high temperatures while making an electrically powered one redundant. Its distinguished design blends into the modern city scape. All traffic safety systems will be equipped with an external flash unit and with an alarm box, which will automatically alert authorities in case of manipulation or vandalism.

Tobias Deubel, Head of Jenoptik’s Smart Mobility Solutions division, said “Kuwait has a long-lasting history of making its roads safer and getting closer to Vision Zero. Together with our local partner, we have been supplying the country with systems for 25 years to enhance road safety. By choosing our newest systems, Kuwait is one of the first countries to seize the opportunity to reduce accidents at intersections in a very sustainable way.”

Humoud Al Rhoudhan, General Manager of First Joint Group, said “We are extremely content with the performance of Jenoptik’s systems and the partnership we have. Over the last decades, a decrease in accidents and fatalities is evident in Kuwait due to the systems.”

Traffic safety technology made by Jenoptik has been successfully deployed in the Middle East for some decades. Jenoptik has also been involved in a variety of traffic safety projects in Kuwait since the 1990s.
