The curator of our “tangente digital art” is Huber & Treff gallery, Jena, co-curator is Berlin-based artist Robert Seidel.

The projections can be seen from November 1-17, 2024, every half hour from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. CET each day.

Peter Burr

Peter Burr reflects our modern life, which is always on the move. The projection ARCHITECTURE MACHINE #10 shows a labyrinth of contrasting patterns of various urban interiors. In their dynamics, they seem to expand beyond the boundaries of the Ernst Abbe high-rise, a projection of contemporary urban development. Boundaries between inside and outside become blurred, thus showing the merge between private and public space. The projection helps us open our eyes to urban potential, the integration of new technologies and modern architectural concepts into existing urban structures.

Inspired by Bauhaus style, Op Art and Glitch

The constant pulsation of the architectural units and the patterns of crowds creates a composition with strong references to the Bauhaus style that emerged in Thuringia, mixed with elements of Op Art and the artist's own digital glitch art, an aesthetic of random and audiovisual error art.

Video art at the Ernst Abbe building

Jenoptik has been holding its own art exhibitions since 1996. Under the name “tangent”, they offer points of contact between business, technology, art, light and perception.

In 2022, Jenoptik launched the exhibition series “tangent digital art”, which shows international and national digital art at the high-rise headquarters, thus bringing its commitment to art into the broader public sphere. The artworks are projected onto two of the high-rise's facades, each measuring 960 and 625 square meters respectively, in the center of Jena.

This art projection is Jenoptik's sixth "digital art" exhibition after the Berlin artist Julian Loscher in spring 2022, the Canadian artist Sabrina Ratté in spring 2023, the Berlin video artist Robert Seidel in November 2023, the interactive installation by the Jena VJ Kurt Komell in December 2023 and GIF collages by the Canadian artist Lorna Mills in spring 2024.
